Four floors, but their working elevator stops at three

Residents of Adamsville Green Senior Apartments in southwest Atlanta say their main elevator has been out for more than a year, leaving a second elevator that reaches only three floors of the four-story building. They described the problem in interviews reported Thursday, September 17.

FOX 5 reported that residents using canes and walkers have struggled with stairs and the route to the remaining elevator. Its Thursday video documented the service elevator out of operation.

Management says replacement work starts Monday

Management told the station a complete replacement was ordered after the system could no longer run reliably. Installation is scheduled to begin Monday, September 21.

“We recognize the inconvenience the elevator outage has caused residents,” management said in its statement.

The reported start date is not a completion date. Management did not provide an installation duration in the account reviewed.

A community designed for older residents

Mercy Housing’s property page identifies Adamsville Green as a 90-apartment independent-living community for people 62 and older at 3537 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Atlanta.

The property description says a majority of the apartments are targeted to residents with physical disabilities. It lists the development as completed in 2010 through a partnership with Progressive Redevelopment, Inc.

The page advertises on-site services coordinated by CaringWorks, a community room, laundry facilities and access to public transportation. Those are the operator’s descriptions, not a separate inspection of current building conditions.

How residents can contact management

The property’s published office number is 404-472-0312, with office hours listed as Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. TTY access is listed at 800-877-8973 or 711.

Mercy Housing’s central contact page separately lists customerservice@mercyhousing.org for assistance to current residents. That is a general resident-support contact, not a case-specific repair timetable.

The next milestone is whether installation begins as announced, followed by a confirmed date for restored service.

Freshness note: FOX 5 published the resident interviews and management response September 17 at 8:26 p.m. Eastern.
