André 3000 is stepping into another unexpected chapter. The Atlanta icon has joined the cast of Netflix’s live-action series Scooby-Doo: Origins, adding some unmistakable Georgia flavor to a production already filming around metro Atlanta.
Netflix announced that André Benjamin and actress Cathy Moriarty have joined the ensemble in roles that have not yet been revealed. The series follows the early days of Mystery Inc., with Mckenna Grace as Daphne, Tanner Hagen as Shaggy, Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma and Maxwell Jenkins as Fred.
The story centers on Shaggy and Daphne during their final summer at camp, where a lost Great Dane puppy may have witnessed a supernatural murder. Their investigation brings Velma and Fred into the mystery and sets the stage for the group fans have known for generations.
A Georgia production with an Atlanta connection
Local reporting says production began in April and has used metro Atlanta locations including studio space in Conyers and a summer-camp location in Rutledge. Filming has been operating under the working title “Talbot Pines,” and the series is expected to arrive in 2027.
For André 3000, the casting also creates a fun full-circle moment. Outkast contributed “Land of a Million Drums” to the soundtrack for the 2002 live-action Scooby-Doo movie. More than two decades later, André is officially entering the franchise on screen.
His character remains the biggest mystery for now, but Atlanta will be watching closely.
