Construction is beginning on Atlanta BeltLine’s Northwest Trail Segment 3B, a nearly one-mile link planned between Trabert Avenue and Tanyard Creek Park. The project is intended to close a key gap between northwest Atlanta neighborhoods and the Buckhead trail network.
The route is part of the larger Segment 3 corridor described by Atlanta BeltLine. Plans include a pedestrian bridge over Northside Drive and a path connection beneath Interstate 75 before the trail reaches Tanyard Creek Park.
What Segment 3B will connect
The new section will extend the trail from the Trabert Avenue area through a corridor bordered by Loring Heights, Brookwood and Ardmore Park. Once complete, users should have a continuous off-street route toward Tanyard Creek Park and existing paths farther north.
The Northside Drive crossing is one of the project’s most visible elements. A grade-separated bridge would allow people walking and biking to cross the busy road without mixing with vehicle traffic at street level.

How the project fits the full loop
The Northwest Trail is among the remaining pieces needed to complete the planned 22-mile BeltLine mainline loop. Atlanta BeltLine has reported about 16.7 mainline miles complete, with additional segments in design or construction around the city.
Officials expect Segment 3B work to continue into 2028. That schedule can change with weather, utility coordination and other construction conditions.
