Atlanta is using road-scanning technology to help decide which streets need work—and to measure what changes after repairs.
Cyvl’s Atlanta case study describes how the city used road-condition data to prioritize downtown improvements and is extending the approach to more infrastructure.
How the scans help
The company’s system combines vehicle-mounted cameras and lidar with software that maps pavement and other street assets. The resulting condition information helps staff prioritize work and compare repeat inspections.
Downtown results are not citywide results
Cyvl reports 60% fewer downtown potholes than in 2024, alongside a pavement-condition score increase from 63.5 to 75.3. Those figures describe downtown improvements—not a 60% reduction across all of Atlanta.
The technology supplies information for repair decisions; collecting a scan is not the same as completing roadwork. The broader effort also covers sidewalks, curb ramps and signs, according to the company.
