By Jeremy Jones @GAFollowers · On August 16, 2013

A 27-year-old Hephzibah man drowned trying to save swimmers while on vacation in Panama City Beach, according to the The News Herald.

Jamarcus Bell and a friend were helping two female swimmers Saturday night when Bell’s friend experienced trouble in the water. Police said Bell helped his friend but then went under the water near the Grand Panama Beach Resort.

According to the newspaper, yellow flags, indicating moderate surf or current hazards, were flying at the time.

Deputies from the Bay County Sheriff’s Office air unit spotted Bell’s body in the water, the newspaper reported.
