Avondale Estates officials are considering a $47,772.99 purchase that would provide emergency-response equipment kits for the city’s police officers.
The proposal calls for 16 kits—one for each of the department’s 14 officers and two additional kits. The equipment would include rifle-rated protective plates, helmets, first-aid supplies, shields, ladders and entry tools.
Commissioners discussed the plan during a September 9 work session. The money has already been included in the city budget, but the purchase still requires a public vote scheduled for September 23.
What the proposal includes
The estimated cost works out to nearly $3,000 per kit. Officials described the equipment as a way to give every officer immediate access to protective and medical gear during a critical incident, rather than relying on a smaller number of shared kits.
The discussion comes as local governments review how quickly first responders can reach protective equipment and trauma supplies during emergencies. Avondale Estates has not announced a separate new policy or training program as part of this purchase.
Because the commission has not yet voted, the equipment plan remains a proposal.
