The station reported that both candidates had agreed to an October town hall in Atlanta. Thursday’s forum was a separate appearance, not that joint event.
The invitation dispute preceded the forum
In a September 17 statement before the event, the Democratic Party of Georgia said Bottoms had issued her six-debate challenge on August 31. Party Chair Charlie Bailey criticized Jackson’s decision during a press call.
The party also said Jackson had declined an Atlanta Press Club invitation and had not committed to five of the six proposed appearances. Those statements represent the Democratic Party’s account of the invitation dispute, not an independent finding about Jackson’s reasons.
