A driver who got out of a stalled SUV on I-75 South in Atlanta was killed Tuesday afternoon when another vehicle crashed into the disabled SUV and struck the driver, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
The crash happened near Cleveland Avenue around 2 p.m. and closed southbound lanes for hours, Atlanta News First reported.
The disabled SUV was blocking a middle lane
Investigators said a green 2001 Nissan Xterra had stalled and was obstructing a middle lane. A black 2017 Infiniti then struck the rear of the Nissan and the Nissan’s driver, who was outside the vehicle.
Both drivers were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. The Nissan driver was pronounced dead, while the Infiniti driver suffered minor injuries, according to GSP.
The investigation remains open
The deceased driver’s identity had not been released in the latest report. GSP also had not announced any charges or citations.
The collision is still under investigation. Any final determination about fault will come from GSP’s crash investigation rather than the initial scene report.
