Pirelli plans to invest about $1.2 billion to expand its U.S. headquarters and manufacturing operation in Rome, Georgia, with roughly 1,000 new jobs expected over the life of the project.
The company and state officials announced the multi-year expansion Tuesday, September 22. Georgia’s economic-development announcement says Pirelli has operated in Rome since 2002 and currently employs 234 people in the state.
Production capacity is expected to climb sharply
Pirelli said the investment is designed to increase the Rome plant’s capacity to about six million car tires a year by 2033 and add production tied to its Cyber Tyre technology.
The company described the U.S. as one of its most important high-value markets. The expansion is intended to increase local production and make the U.S. supply chain less dependent on overseas manufacturing.
The 1,000-job figure is a long-term commitment, not a promise that all positions will open immediately. Specific job titles, wages and a complete hiring schedule were not included in the initial announcement.
