Stockbridge’s City Council voted September 12 to remove Mayor Jayden Williams following a lengthy hearing over alleged misconduct.
Williams, 23, had taken office in January. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that three council members supported removal, one abstained and another had been disqualified from the hearing panel.
What the hearing covered
The allegations involved city purchasing and fuel cards, use of a city vehicle, treatment of staff and messages with an 18-year-old. These allegations were presented in an administrative removal proceeding; the council’s action is not a criminal conviction.
Williams’ attorney, Robert Kenner Jr., challenged the evidence and the motives behind the case. He also argued that some disputed spending had been reimbursed, according to the AJC.
What happens next
The AJC reported that Williams can appeal the decision to Henry County Superior Court. Its report did not establish that an appeal had been filed.
