Atlanta producer Nosakhere Andrew, better known as Mr. 2-17, is taking his sound in a new direction: original educational music made for young children.
The 32-year-old producer first drew attention in the children’s music space after remixing songs associated with Ms. Rachel. When those remixes began spreading online, viewers encouraged him to create material of his own. That response helped push an experiment into a full creative lane.
Mr. 2-17 already had a résumé rooted in Atlanta music. His production credits include work connected to Lil Wayne, 2 Chainz and Travis Porter. At home, he also has a built-in focus group: four sons who are all age 6 or younger.
Music with a community purpose
The idea is bigger than putting a new beat behind a lesson. Mr. 2-17 told CBS News Atlanta that he wants learning to feel fun, current and easy for children to follow. His experience includes after-school programs and film instruction at metro Atlanta schools, giving the project a foundation in real work with students.
He hosted his first children’s concert in Brookhaven on Aug. 30. The event added a live component to a mission that also includes youth mentorship and annual community giveaways along Gresham Road, where he grew up.
For Atlanta, it is a familiar kind of reinvention: an artist using the city’s musical language to build something for the next generation.
