The DeKalb County School District has made Norman C. Sauce III its permanent superintendent after nearly a year in the interim role.
The school board swore Sauce in Monday, completing a leadership search that followed the departure of former superintendent Devon Horton. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Sauce becomes the district’s latest permanent leader after months of transition.

He takes over after a year as interim leader
Sauce had already been overseeing the district’s day-to-day operations, including ongoing work around attendance zones, school capacity and district stability.
His appointment comes as DeKalb continues navigating enrollment shifts and a major student-assignment process that could change school boundaries across several clusters.
Stability is the immediate challenge
DeKalb has gone through frequent superintendent turnover over the past decade, making leadership continuity a major concern for parents and employees.
Sauce now moves from interim authority to a full mandate. The next major test will be how the district handles its boundary changes, academic priorities and community trust under a permanent leadership structure.
