Two sisters are facing a combined 19 animal-cruelty charges after investigators say dozens of animals were discovered living in deplorable conditions inside an Atlanta home.
The case began Oct. 1 when Atlanta police went to a home on Toll House Lane to execute a search warrant in an unrelated investigation. The person officers were looking for was not there, but police discovered a large number of animals and called Fulton County Animal Services, according to WSB-TV.

30 animals and 14 fish removed
Investigators said they removed 30 animals and 14 fish, including dogs, cats, rabbits, snakes, bearded dragons, geckos and a sugar glider.
Authorities described overflowing litter boxes, roaches and strong ammonia odors inside the home. Nine puppies were found inside a single kennel placed in a bathtub, investigators said. Other dogs were reportedly tethered outside without food, water or shelter.
Police identified the sisters as Synaia Carter and 22-year-old Janyla Carter. Synaia Carter faces five counts of animal cruelty; Janyla Carter faces 14.
Animals are now with Fulton County
The animals were taken to Fulton County Animal Services. Officials were still evaluating their conditions and whether any could eventually become available for adoption.
Investigators said social-media videos appeared to show some of the same animals later removed from the home. A family member told WSB-TV the family wanted to share its side of the story.
The cruelty charges remain allegations and do not establish guilt.
