Bijan Robinson has another NFL honor after helping the Atlanta Falcons get their first win of the season.
The league named Robinson NFC Offensive Player of the Week on Wednesday, Sept. 30, recognizing his performance in Atlanta’s 35-14 victory over the Green Bay Packers last Thursday. The Falcons announced the award at noon.
Robinson rushed for 194 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries at Lambeau Field. He also caught two passes for 19 yards, finishing with 213 yards from scrimmage.
It is his third time winning the weekly NFC offensive award, and all three have followed prime-time games. According to the NFL’s announcement, Robinson averages 145.4 scrimmage yards in prime time, the highest mark in league history among players with at least five such appearances.
A fast start for Atlanta’s running back
Through three weeks, Robinson leads the NFL with 467 yards from scrimmage. He also led the league in that category last season, according to the Falcons.
His rushing total in Green Bay came within one yard of his career high: 195 against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 17 last season. Thursday was also his third career game with more than 200 scrimmage yards.
The Falcons said Robinson became the 10th player in NFL history to reach 6,000 career scrimmage yards before his 25th birthday. He also set a franchise record with his seventh prime-time game of at least 100 total yards.
Robinson and London made history together
Drake London matched Robinson’s rushing total with 194 receiving yards, a career best for the receiver.
In its postgame report, Atlanta said it was the third game in which Robinson topped 150 rushing yards and London topped 150 receiving yards. No other running back and receiver pairing has done that more often in NFL history.
The win also ended Green Bay’s streak of 13 consecutive home-opening victories. Atlanta’s defense limited the Packers to 17 rushing yards, the lowest single-game total the Falcons have allowed.
Next comes another prime-time opportunity. The Falcons visit the New Orleans Saints on Monday, Oct. 5, with kickoff scheduled for 8:15 p.m. ET at the Caesars Superdome. Robinson and Michael Penix Jr. remain listed as the starters at running back and quarterback on Atlanta’s unofficial Week 4 depth chart.
