Bon Ton, the colorful Viet-Cajun restaurant and cocktail bar on Myrtle Street in Midtown Atlanta, will close on September 30 after nine years in business.
Co-owner Darren Carr announced the upcoming closure in an email and on the restaurant’s Instagram account. Carr also confirmed that The Waiting Room, the cocktail lounge located above Bon Ton, closed this week after three years.
A nine-year run in Midtown
Bon Ton opened in 2017 in the former Top Flr space as a collaboration involving Carr, bartender Eric Simpkins and Hieu Pham of Crawfish Shack. The restaurant developed a distinct identity by combining Vietnamese flavors with Cajun and New Orleans influences.
The menu became known for seafood boils, smoked snow crab, fried seafood, po’boys and dishes such as seafood gumbo. Its bar program was another major part of the experience, with drinks including frozen Irish coffee and Hurricane-style cocktails.
Over the years, Bon Ton built a reputation for its playful atmosphere, bright interior and casual approach to dinner and drinks. The restaurant’s own description calls it a Cajun-Vietnamese restaurant and cocktail bar.
A final month of service
Bon Ton is not closing immediately. Carr said the restaurant plans to spend its final four weeks giving customers opportunities to return, order familiar dishes and toast its run in Midtown before the last service on September 30.
The announcement did not provide a detailed reason for the closure or outline future plans for the space. With Bon Ton and The Waiting Room closing, Rough Draft Atlanta reports that no restaurants from Big Citizen Restaurant Group remain open in the city.
Customers planning a final visit should check the restaurant’s website or reservation platform for current operating hours and availability, since schedules may change during the final month.
