Clayton County has secured two Atlanta Regional Commission grants totaling $13.4 million for safety and transit projects. County officials said $5.4 million will support pedestrian improvements along Tara Boulevard, while $8 million will help build a new multipurpose transit operations and maintenance facility.
The Tara Boulevard project is intended to advance right-of-way work and pedestrian-safety improvements along the busy six-lane corridor. Residents and officials have long raised concerns about walking conditions, lighting and safe crossings in the area.
The separate transit grant will support a facility designed for operations, maintenance and future fleet needs. Clayton County described the project as zero-emission-ready, allowing the building to support cleaner transit vehicles as the system evolves.
Together, the awards cover planning and infrastructure work rather than an immediate construction completion. Project schedules and final designs will depend on the county’s remaining design, right-of-way and procurement steps.
