Neighbors are asking for more security after several dead animals were found along the South River Trail in DeKalb County over the weekend, including baby goats whose legs had been bound.
WSB-TV reports that daily trail walker Adam Laberack discovered the animals Saturday morning. He described two baby goats, two Canada geese and close to a dozen pigeons.
Neighbors say the goats were tied
Laberack told the station the goats’ front and back legs were tied with wire and duct tape. He and neighbor Keegan Nanan said they believe the animals were dumped along the trail overnight.
The neighbors also pointed out another area where they found feathers and described it as a second dumping location. They said illegal dumping is not unusual along the trail, but the discovery of dead animals was different from the tires and trash they normally encounter.
Nanan said DeKalb County Animal Control responded. WSB said it also reached out to Atlanta police and animal control seeking information about the investigation, the species involved and whether similar incidents have been documented.
Residents want cameras along the trail
The neighbors are asking for additional security cameras near access points and streets leading to the trail. They believe video could help investigators determine when the animals were brought in and identify a vehicle or person responsible.
No suspect or arrest had been announced in the reporting reviewed. It also remains unclear how the animals died. Those details should come from animal-control or law-enforcement findings rather than assumptions based on the scene.
