A Haralson County jury convicted former Bremen High School assistant baseball coach Geoffrey Brad Matthews on all 13 counts in a child-molestation and grooming-related case, according to the Tallapoosa Circuit District Attorney’s Office.
The verdict followed an 11-day trial. Prosecutors called 33 witnesses, including seven victims from the high school and two witnesses who testified about similar conduct.
Bremen police began investigating Matthews after students compared their experiences and reported concerns. A separate Carroll County investigation also involved allegations from a teenager who described abuse beginning years earlier.
The jury’s decision resolves the guilt phase of the case. Matthews is scheduled to be sentenced October 6 at 9 a.m.
