Police said officers were called to the facility on Campbellton-Fairburn Road around 12:30 p.m. September 8. A county employee told officers that the child’s father had assaulted her and left with the infant and her cellphone.

Officers arranged a safe stop
An officer contacted the father while he was driving and urged him to leave the highway and make sure the baby was safe. Police said he stopped at the College Park MARTA station, where officers recovered the infant and took him into custody without further incident.
The baby was not reported injured and was reunited with the mother. The mother’s condition was not detailed in the public reports.

Investigation remains active
Criminal charges were pending at publication time. Any future charges would be allegations and would not constitute a finding of guilt.
The account was reported by Atlanta News First and WSB-TV, citing Fulton County police. The department said the investigation remained active.
