GEORGIA — State troopers and public-safety officers reported 216 DUI arrests during a 24-hour Labor Day enforcement period, according to preliminary figures released by the Georgia Department of Public Safety.
The same update listed 183 distracted-driving citations, 324 seat-belt citations, 95 crashes and one traffic death. The totals reflect the department’s early reporting window and should not be read as the final count for the entire holiday weekend.
What the preliminary totals show
Georgia State Patrol and Motor Carrier Compliance Division officers increase enforcement during major travel periods, focusing on impaired driving, speeding, distracted driving and seat-belt violations.
The 216 DUI arrests represent cases in which officers determined there was probable cause for an arrest. An arrest is not a conviction, and individual cases proceed through the court system.
Holiday travel safety
Georgia DPS regularly urges drivers to arrange a sober ride before drinking, put phones away, wear seat belts and slow down in heavy traffic. The agency also reminds motorists to move over when approaching stopped emergency vehicles when it is safe to do so.
