Great White Shark Caught Off Cumberland Island in Georgia

By Jeremy Jones @GAFollowers · On February 27, 2014

A 14-foot, one-ton great white shark named Katharine surfaced this morning off Cumberland Island and appears headed southeast.

She was tagged by the nonprofit Ocearch on Cape Cod in August. Her tracking device, attached to her dorsal fin, sends a signal when she surfaces. She “pinged” even closer to the beach at Cumberland on Monday night.

Katharine is the same shark that was tracked just off Tybee before Christmas. Since then she’s been documented as far south as Orlando.
