A Henry County family is sharing a hopeful update after seven-year-old Brayden Guy underwent years of treatment for two cancers and received a bone marrow transplant from his father.
FOX 5 Atlanta reported that Brayden was first diagnosed with neuroblastoma at age two after his parents noticed swelling around his eye. Doctors found an aggressive tumor on his adrenal gland, and he later underwent three surgeries and multiple rounds of chemotherapy.
A second diagnosis
After his initial treatment, Brayden became ill again as his blood counts dropped. His mother, Breanna Guy, pushed for additional testing, and doctors at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia shortly before his fifth birthday.
Brayden needed a bone marrow transplant. An initial donor became unavailable, and his father, Brandon Guy, stepped in as the donor. The transplant took place in December 2024.
Clear scans and continued monitoring
The family told FOX 5 that Brayden’s subsequent scans have been clear for both the original neuroblastoma and the therapy-related leukemia. Clear scans are an important milestone, though his medical team continues to monitor his recovery and long-term care needs.
His parents said their experience reinforced the importance of speaking up when symptoms persist and seeking another medical opinion when concerns remain.
