A major stretch of I-285 in southwest Atlanta remains fully closed this weekend as Georgia DOT crews continue work on the I-285 Westside Rebuild project.
All northbound and southbound lanes between Cascade Road (Exit 7) and SR 166/Langford Parkway (Exit 5) are scheduled to remain closed until 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 28.
The closure is part of a larger rebuild schedule
The shutdown began Friday at 7 p.m. and is being used for concrete slab work in the project area. Drivers are being pushed onto surrounding roads, where significant delays are possible throughout the weekend.
Atlanta News First reports that similar full weekend closures are planned repeatedly through the end of the year, generally beginning Friday evenings and ending early Monday mornings, with exceptions around major holiday weekends.
Drivers should plan around the west side
The closure affects a key west-side connection near Cascade Road and Langford Parkway. Motorists traveling through southwest Atlanta should allow extra time and check live traffic conditions before entering the area.
Construction schedules remain weather-dependent. The current closure is expected to lift before Monday’s morning commute if work stays on schedule.
