Metro Atlanta drivers should plan around a full weekend closure on I-285 in southwest Fulton County. The Georgia Department of Transportation says all northbound and southbound lanes will close between Cascade Road and SR 166/Langford Parkway beginning at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, with reopening scheduled for 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 28.
The closure is part of GDOT’s ongoing I-285 Westside Rebuild project. According to WSB-TV, crews are expected to mill and grind roadway concrete so damaged slabs can be repaired or replaced. The larger westside project runs along I-285 from the South Fulton Parkway area toward Collier Road and is scheduled for completion in 2029.
GDOT warns that the closure is weather- and conditions-dependent, so timing could change if crews cannot work safely. The state’s 511GA alert system also lists the Sept. 25–28 closure and advises motorists to use alternate routes and check for updates before traveling.
The affected stretch includes I-285 northbound from Langford Parkway toward Cascade Road and southbound from Cascade Road toward Langford Parkway. Because the shutdown removes all through lanes in both directions, delays are expected to spill onto surrounding roads during the weekend.
