The Georgia Department of Public Health has confirmed three additional measles cases connected to an ongoing outbreak at a metro Atlanta daycare, bringing the cluster’s total to eight.
Health officials said the initial case was identified on August 18. The children involved were unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated, according to the department. Georgia has now reported 14 measles cases in 2026, compared with 10 during all of 2025.
Symptoms and precautions
Measles symptoms commonly appear seven to 14 days after exposure, although the incubation period can range from four to 21 days. Early signs can include a high fever, cough, runny nose and watery eyes, followed by a rash that spreads across the body.
DPH advises anyone who believes they were exposed or develops symptoms to contact a healthcare provider before arriving at a clinic or hospital. Calling first allows medical staff to reduce the risk of exposing other patients.
The standard MMR vaccination schedule calls for a first dose between 12 and 15 months of age and a second between ages four and six. For questions, DPH lists 404-657-2588 during business hours and 1-866-PUB-HLTH after hours and on weekends.
