A woman was safely removed from a Rockdale County home after an armed suspect surrendered following a standoff Thursday, September 17, deputies said.
The encounter began around 5 p.m. in the 1600 block of Woodcrest Drive as deputies attempted to serve a warrant, according to a sheriff’s-office release reported by FOX 5.
Negotiators were called in
Authorities said the suspect ran inside and barricaded himself with a woman who lived there. Deputies called SWAT and negotiators after he refused requests to let her leave.
He surrendered after extended negotiations. The sheriff’s office said the woman was unharmed.
