Every Wednesday, Wellness Wednesdays takes place at Central Park in Atlantic Station. A free yoga session open to the public from 6:30 – 7:30pm. We like to stay fit and our long time friend JB was there to check it out. Here’s what he had to say.
Hey! Sometimes I go by JB and amongst the many things I do, I like to workout. I’m a running fanatic but do a bit of everything to be well rounded. With summer winding down, the weather is more favorable for outdoor activities like yoga.
This was my first time attending Wellness Wednesdays and maybe my 4th time doing organized yoga. I arrived at the grassy area between Strip and Rosa Mexicano where about 50 people were gathered, already positioned in downward dog.
Admittedly, I chuckled on the inside at the site of so many rear-ends, each pushed up towards the sky. It’s awfully juvenile, but stems from that scene in The Lion King when the hyenas shake their bottoms to Scar’s sing-along.
I maneuvered to my friends who regularly attend and arranged my things.
Being fairly new to yoga, I initially felt somewhat awkward until I quickly realized everyone was already in their Zen mode. Following suit, I formed the pose, eyeing my neighbor to make sure I was doing it correctly, and looked center front for our next step.
The instructor Stephy J demonstrates while speaking to us with her calm yet bubbly voice. She gives off great energy and takes advantage of the entire space. While we contorted our bodies, Stephy unpredictably leaped atop pillars and bounced her way to and from the stage.
I experienced Atlantic Station in a way never before. During our release, I lay on my back with the skyscrapers in view. The last bit of sunlight fit perfectly through trees adjacent to the park and the music settles into a comforting trance. I felt at ease and connected with my city.
Yoga isn’t super hard and u should definitely make a visit. Whether it’s to get back to your health and wellness, break the monotony of your usual workout routine, or even meet new people. Take advantage of Wellness Wednesdays while the weather permits!
