It’s the moment nearly every Atlantan has been waiting for since 2015 — or really, forever. Starting this Sunday, December 2, Atlanta’s restaurants can officially (and legally) begin serving cocktails, beer, and wine starting at 11 a.m.

The “brunch bill” or “mimosa mandate” easily passed a public vote on November 6. The start date was delayed as the vote first needed to be certified by Fulton and Dekalb counties, then signed by mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, and finally enacted by the Atlanta City Council. Over 45 metro Atlanta cities and counties voted in favor of the Sunday “brunch bill”. The new law allows for the sale of alcohol at restaurants and bars to begin at 11 a.m. on Sundays.

The passage of the law comes at one of the busiest times of the year for restaurants in Atlanta, as the city gets ready to host thousands of college football fans for this weekend’s SEC championship game between Georgia and Alabama, holiday travelers throughout the month of December, and people from around the world for the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 3, 2019, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
