Atlanta Checker Cab Taking Necessary Precautions, Offering Delivery Services

By Rick Limpert @RickRoswell · On March 24, 2020

For 73 years, Atlanta Checker Cab has been adapting to the needs of Atlantans, but in these times, the longtime leader in transportation services in Atlanta is making sure customers and the city stay safe amid the COVID-19 crisis.

It’s customers and drivers “first” as they are making their own hand and taxi sanitizer.

“We are making our own hand sanitizer, since we can’t find any to buy for our drivers and passengers to stay safe,” said Rick Hewatt, President and Owner of Atlanta Checker Cab.

Atlanta Checker Cab is also spreading the word that they can help new and existing customers with deliveries.

Hewatt said they are growing this side of their operations and if people don’t want to go out, items can come to them!

“We can deliver food, drugs, groceries or pretty much deliver anything that is 50 lbs. or less. We can pick items usually within 15 minutes and deliver immediately for $2.00 per mile.”

Hewatt adds:

“We have delivered packages for 73 years but it has been a small percentage of our pre-coronavirus age. But now we see an opportunity to deliver packages instead of people because it has slowed down so much during this time of social distancing.”

Atlanta Checker Cab is also making sure it can meet the technology needs of Atlantans. Those needing a cab should download the Atlanta Checker Cab app.

The “Atlanta Checker Cab” app is available for both Android and iOS smartphones and tablets, and has been given positive reviews in both Google Play and Apple’s App stores. The app also includes a custom branded website for on-line bookings. Passengers booking through the website can see these reservations on the app as well as they leave their desk to meet their cab. Riders cab also make their reservations through the Atlanta Checker Cab Facebook page.

Users who download the Atlanta Checker Cab application can quickly create an account with an email and telephone number, and book their first ride immediately thereafter. The app allows users to define their pickup and destination points, and even estimates a fare for the journey. Passengers are provided with a confirmation number, along with periodic updates when they are assigned a vehicle. They can see their vehicle on a map as it proceeds towards the pick-up address, and are notified when the vehicle is out front. At the end of the ride, customers can get an email receipt with the details of the trip for accurate and convenient expense tracking.

Additional features of the innovative app include the ability to define favorite locations, rebook a previous trip, and select a pickup or destination address based upon Google Places lookup. Users may also set preferences for vehicle type, payment method and number of passengers. Many new and exciting features are planned for subsequent releases.
