The Atlanta Braves fell 4-2 to the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday, evening the series and tightening the race at the top of the National League East.
Philadelphia starter Zack Wheeler held Atlanta to one run and three hits over six innings while striking out nine. Kyle Schwarber added his Major League-leading 41st home run of the season.
Atlanta held to five hits
The Braves finished with five hits. Ronald Acuña Jr. and Austin Riley supplied the offense with solo home runs, but Atlanta could not close the gap after Philadelphia built an early lead.
Braves starter Martin Perez allowed four runs on seven hits and four walks in 3⅔ innings. Philadelphia reliever Jhoan Duran recorded his 30th save.
The Phillies improved to 80-62, while the Braves moved to 84-58. Atlanta’s division lead is now four games, with the series tied at one game apiece.
