Breakthrough Atlanta Celebrates 20-Year Anniversary with Event

By Rick Limpert @RickRoswell · On September 19, 2016

A special mention of the upcoming 20th Anniversary celebration of Breakthrough Atlanta, which will take place Thursday evening (September 22) at the National Center for Civil & Human Rights.

Breakthrough Atlanta has a dual mission: 1) to place motivated underserved students on a six-year path to college through a rigorous summer and school year academic program, and 2) to inspire the next generation of teachers and education leaders through summer internships for college and high school students.  Over the past 20 years, Breakthrough Atlanta has served thousands of students with its programs and has motivated over 300 college student teachers.

WHO: Monica Rogers, Director of Breakthrough Atlanta, and event organizers Erin Cay and Hilton Ball, are hosting the inaugural Fund-A-Scholar event for Breakthrough Atlanta.

The event will showcase Breakthrough Atlanta’s 20 years of providing an academically intense path to college for Atlanta public middle and upper school students and hands-on teaching internships for high school and college students. Event highlights include a live auction and remarks from Breakthrough graduates and teachers.

WHAT: Breakthrough Atlanta, hosted by The Lovett School-and now the Atlanta Youth Academy-opened in 1996. It strives to increase educational opportunities for motivated middle school students from metro Atlanta public schools and inspires talented high school and college students to pursue careers in education.

All proceeds from the Fund-A-Scholar event will help Breakthrough achieve its goal: to provide the academic instruction, social skills, and confidence students need to succeed on the pathway to college – and in life.

MISSION: Breakthrough provides a six-year, tuition free, year-round, academically rigorous study skills enrichment program that provides a pathway to college for Atlanta’s middle and high school students. It offers an arena of instruction, skills, and encouragement, as well as mentoring by professional teachers.

WHEN: Thursday, September 22, 6:30 P.M.

WHERE: The National Center for Civil & Human Rights

100 Ivan Allen Jr. Blvd., NW

Atlanta, GA 30313
