Breel Embolo made his first Atlanta United appearance count Saturday night, converting an 87th-minute penalty to give the Five Stripes a 2-2 draw against Inter Miami.
The match in South Florida began after a lengthy weather delay, then quickly turned into an exchange of goals. Inter Miami’s Casemiro opened the scoring in the 32nd minute before Miguel Almirón answered for Atlanta three minutes later. Luis Suárez restored Miami’s lead in first-half stoppage time.

A second chance from the spot
Atlanta had already seen one penalty saved after a video review when another opportunity arrived late. Embolo stepped up and scored, turning his debut into a result-saving performance and giving Atlanta a point on the road.
The new forward was active beyond the goal. Atlanta United credited him with drawing seven fouls as Miami’s defense tried to contain his runs and hold-up play. The club also noted that he became the third Atlanta debutant to score a goal that changed the final result.

A quick turnaround
Atlanta United returns home Wednesday, Sept. 9, for a 7:30 p.m. match against Orlando City at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Embolo’s late equalizer gives the team a positive moment to carry into the midweek fixture.
