Georgia running back Dante Dowdell has shared new details about the injuries he sustained in a July ATV accident, offering the clearest public account yet of the rehabilitation that has kept him away from football.
In a recovery update reported by WSB-TV, Dowdell said he suffered a punctured lung, broken ribs, two broken collarbones, nerve damage in his right arm and a head wound that required nine staples.
Rehabilitation at Shepherd Center
Dowdell has been rehabilitating at Atlanta’s Shepherd Center. Video included with his update showed work on strength, mobility and aquatic exercises as he continues recovering from multiple injuries.

The update focused on his progress rather than a return date. Georgia coach Kirby Smart has not announced a timetable for Dowdell to resume football activities.
A transfer in Georgia’s backfield
Dowdell joined Georgia after previous stops at Oregon, Nebraska and Kentucky. In Georgia’s 2026 G-Day game, he carried six times for 61 yards and a touchdown, giving fans an early look at the veteran back before the accident.

His rehabilitation remains the priority. Any return-to-play decision will depend on medical clearance and the football program’s evaluation; no date has been publicly confirmed.
