Georgia Connections Galore in PGA Tour Barbasol Championship in Opelika

It may be almost 100 years since MIT Professor, Frank Shields, concocted his shaving cream in 1919 in Indianapolis, and it’s been almost one year since it was announced that the Barbasol Championship will be held at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Auburn/Opelika, Alabama, July 13-19, 2015.

Sponsored by Barbasol, America’s #1 brand of shaving cream, this will be the first regular PGA Tour stop for the state of Alabama.

With Alabama being a next-door neighbor to Georgia, there will be of Peach State connections and angles to the Barbasol Championship.

Roberto Castro – Georgia Tech

Ryuji Imada – University of Georgia

Troy Matteson – Georgia Tech

Zach Sucher – UAB, from Atlanta

Richy Werenski – Georgia Tech; Winner of Big Break

The rest of the field will be led by:

Sangmoon Bae – Currently 20th in FedEx Cup Points and 87th in the world ranking. Winner of 2015 Frys.com Open

Jonathan Byrd – Five time winner on the PGA TOUR

Alex Cejka – Winner of the 2015 Puerto Rico Open

Brendon de Jonge – Currently 28th in FedEx Cup Points and 90th in the world ranking

Collectively, the field has 147 wins on the PGA TOUR. The PGA TOUR will award 300 FedEx Cup points to the winner. Admission is free for active and retired military plus children age 15 and younger.

The Barbasol Championship is a short drive from the Atlanta metro area, but it will also get major coverage on the Golf Channel.

Thursday, July 16 – First round. Live coverage on Golf Channel from 4 to 7 Eastern

Friday, July 17 – Second round. Live coverage on Golf Channel from 4 to 7 Eastern

Saturday, July 18 – Third round. Live coverage on Golf Channel from 4 to 7 Eastern

Sunday, July 19 – Final round. Live coverage on Golf Channel from4 to 7 Eastern. End of play anticipated at 7 p.m. Eastern.
