Former University of Georgia star Nick Chubb made his NFL retirement official Friday, signing a one-day contract to retire as a member of the Cleveland Browns.
The Browns announced the move Sept. 25, bringing Chubb back to the franchise that drafted him in the second round in 2018. Chubb spent seven seasons in Cleveland and became one of the most productive running backs in team history.
For Georgia fans, the retirement closes the professional chapter of one of the Bulldogs’ most recognizable stars. Chubb played at UGA from 2014 through 2017 and finished with 4,769 rushing yards, second in program history behind Herschel Walker.

Chubb quickly established himself in Cleveland. The Browns say he topped 1,000 rushing yards in four consecutive seasons after his rookie year and posted a career-high 1,525 rushing yards in 2022. He earned four Pro Bowl selections and finished his Browns career with 6,843 rushing yards and 51 rushing touchdowns.
His 2023 season was cut short by a serious knee injury, but he returned to the field in 2024. In announcing his retirement with Cleveland, Chubb said the city had become a second home and that the decision to retire as a Brown was an easy one.
Chubb’s retirement links two major parts of his football legacy: a record-setting run in Athens and a seven-season stretch in Cleveland that placed him among the franchise’s leading rushers.
