I am a firm believer that the small, “Mom & Pop” restaurants make some of the best food and offers its own twist on their product. The small restaurants also offer what other restaurants don’t offer: an actual personal relationship with the owner and employees.
We had the pleasure of going to Miss Crumpy’s Hot Wings which is located in Little 5 Points. The owner, Freda Crump, welcomed us with open arms in her establishment. Miss Crumpy’s is a spin-off of the original restaurant in Memphis, Crumpy’s Hot Wings. The logo of Miss Crumpy’s display a female chicken sitting with a plate of wings in from of the Memphis bridge and skyline.
From the owner, to the logo, to the actual food it all stay true to its Memphis roots. Each item on the menu has the special seasoning that is made by Miss Crumpy. One this that separates Miss Crumpy’s hot wings from others is that she offers the WHOLE wing. Even though you are getting a whole wing, you’re not breaking your pockets. If one gets a 5 piece hot wing, they are technically getting 10 wings from another establishment.
We had the liberty to try some of the different flavors that are offered. Some of the flavors we tried were Honey Gold, Mild, Hot, and Lemon Pepper. The hottest flavor that Miss Crumpy’s offer is Suicide, which for my taste is VERY HOT.
But don’t think this is just a hot wing spot, she offers many other delicious items on the menu. Some of the most popular are sides such as fried mushrooms, green tomatoes, and pickles. They also offer burgers, tacos, fish, and steak & chicken phillies as well.
While there, we also had some great conversations with Freda Crump. Not only does she feed her paying customers, but she also helps feed the less fortunate right in Atlanta.
Miss Crumpy’s is one of the best kept secrets in Little Five Points. Whenever you’re in L5P, make sure you go by and visit Miss Crumpy’s and tell her that GAFollowers sent you!
