A man faces arson and burglary charges after Sandy Springs police say money was taken from a Sonic restaurant, its security-camera system was disabled and the building was intentionally set on fire early Tuesday, September 22.
Police and firefighters responded around 4:55 a.m. to the Sonic at 5903 Roswell Road. Investigators later identified Luis Quintana as a suspect and obtained arrest and search warrants, according to FOX 5’s report citing Sandy Springs police.
Police say money was taken before the fire
Detectives said they determined business funds were stolen before the fire and that the restaurant’s security-camera system had been deliberately disabled. Officers later located Quintana at his home and arrested him without incident.
Police said investigators recovered evidence connected to the case while executing their warrants. Authorities have not publicly disclosed how much money was taken.
Quintana was booked into the Fulton County Jail on charges of first-degree arson and second-degree burglary. The charges are allegations, and the initial reports do not establish a conviction.
Questions remain about the restaurant’s reopening
WSB-TV reported that the location was boarded up after the fire. Police did not announce an estimated damage total, and Sonic had not publicly announced a reopening timetable in the reporting reviewed.
