By Rick Limpert @RickRoswell · On May 8, 2015

Atlanta motorists and those motorists that will be passing through or near Atlanta on Friday need to be aware that a small plane crash occurred on Interstate 285 in the morning near Peachtree Industrial Blvd.

I-285 is closed between Ashford Dunwoody and Chamblee Tucker Roads after a plane crash that killed four people. Reports say that traffic could be affected for over 8 hours.

Current information as per the Georgia DOT:

Eastbound I-285 traffic is being diverted at exit No. 29 (Ashford Dunwoody Road). Motorists can re-enter the interstate at Peachtree Industrial Boulevard. Traffic on westbound I-285 is closed at exit No. 34 (Chamblee Tucker Road). Westbound motorists can re-enter at Peachtree Industrial Boulevard.

Those who are already traveling on southbound I-85 should use northbound Ga. 400 as a detour and motorists who are already traveling on southbound Ga. 400 should use northbound I-85 as a detour.

The plane was taking off from PDK airport after making a stop on its way to Mississippi.

The Georgia DOT is posting updates for motorists on social media and its website at: http://www.dot.ga.gov. Local Atlanta TV stations are also offering live coverage.
