A teenager is expected to recover after being shot Monday night in Stonecrest in what DeKalb County police describe as an accidental discharge during gun cleaning.
Officers were called around 9:50 p.m. to the 200 block of Meadowood Ridge, where they found the wounded teen. The victim was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive, Atlanta News First reported.

Police say the gun discharged during cleaning
Investigators said 49-year-old Napoleon Braxton, identified by police as the boyfriend of the teen’s mother, was cleaning a firearm when it discharged and struck the teenager.
Braxton was arrested and charged with reckless conduct. The charge is an allegation, and the initial police account does not establish a conviction or final finding about how the firearm discharged.
What remains unclear
Police have not publicly released the teenager’s age, identity or specific injuries. Authorities also have not said whether additional charges are being considered.
The case now moves into the criminal-court process while the teenager recovers. Any final determination about criminal responsibility will come through that process rather than the initial arrest report.
