Next time you are in Mercedes Benz Stadium, look around a bit.
Living Walls and AT&T in partnership with AMB Sports and Entertainment have unveiled the latest mural inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The mural comes to life with AT&T Dream in Black as part of AT&T’s Believe Atlanta initiative focusing on celebrating Atlanta’s artists and cultural roots.
The latest mural is the fifth installment in the curated series developed by Living Walls and AT&T at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, where their missions align to commission one local artist annually to create an original masterpiece inside the AT&T Perch on the 200 level of the stadium.
Through this program, artists share their love for Atlanta through large-scale artwork that serves as a cultural touchpoint, connecting Mercedes-Benz Stadium and local communities.
This year’s featured local artist, Drew Borders (she/her), celebrates Atlanta’s creative community through vibrant portraiture and cultural symbols of the city, representing the magic made when we come together. As an African American muralist, illustrator, and 2D animator, her work is driven by a desire for representation amongst people of color. She uses bright colors to bring a sense of vibrancy, excitement, and life to her portraits of Black and Brown women to combat stigmas and stereotypes such marginalized groups experience.
“When we get together to share different ideas, cultures, and perspectives, we can create something magical,” says mural artist Drew Borders.
“Mercedes-Benz Stadium doesn’t just serve as host for concerts and sporting events – it’s a cultural hub for our city,” said John Dwyer, President, AT&T Prepaid Portfolio. “This is a place where performers and athletes from all over the world come to showcase their talents, but it also acts as a launching pad for the talented people who live in Atlanta. Drew Borders was born and raised here, and her work speaks to two of the core values AT&T has – thinking big and striving to make a difference. We’re so proud that her artistic gifts will be on display for visitors that come from near and far in the year ahead.”
“AT&T Dream In Black empowers every hue and connects every dream. It celebrates the strength we build when we unite, honoring the future makers who lead the way,” said Cara Fields, VP and General Manager Southeast States AT&T “This Women’s History Month, we spotlight the creativity that shapes that success, much like Drew Borders’ vision in this piece that describes our collective journey.”“Mercedes-Benz Stadium’s art program is meant to provide impactful and engaging pieces throughout the building,” says Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, AMBSE, Nana-Yaw Asamoah. “We are honored to work alongside Living Walls and AT&T to celebrate Atlanta’s robust artist community and showcase meaningful work year after year.”
