Whether you bought a rug from Pier 1 or you have an oriental family heirloom, it is challenging to take care of your rug. Rugs are susceptible to dirt, mold, and mildew, especially in high-traffic areas of the house, and especially in the heat and humidity of Georgia. As such, here are some ways to keep your rugs in good condition.

1. Rug Repair

With time, your rugs will lose their vibrancy due to dye migration, fading over time, or being soiled heavily. These factors affect the patina of the carpet. You need not worry since rug reweaving services can make your rug age like fine wine. Rug weaving is a stringent process that requires special attention from experienced and certified cleaners. Rug specialists will examine the carpet to identify the areas that need to be rewoven. They look for stains, tears, and color fading. Some of the rug repair services include:
· Fringe repairs
· Area rug repairs
· Hole and tar repairs
· Oriental rug reweaving services

2. Beware of Foot Traffic

Footfall damages the rugs very fast. Robust and hard-wearing rugs can withstand a lot of traffic, but delicate carpets cannot withstand the pressure. To protect the delicate weaves and fibers, do not place the mats in high-traffic areas such as hallways and kitchen. Place delicate rugs in lo- traffic areas such as occasional rooms and bedrooms.

You can protect hard-wearing rugs from traffic by removing outdoor shoes before entering the house. Request the guests to do the same. Footfall in socks or bare feet is not so harsh for the rug. Removing shoes protects your mat from wearing off and unnecessary outdoor dust and dirt.

3. Clean It Regularly

Your rug needs to be clean to maintain its elegant look. There are several tips for cleaning the carpet. First, vacuum the carpet regularly to get rid of dust, stains, and dirt. Vacuuming is a natural process for removing loose dirt. To reduce damages, use the nozzle attachment rather than the abrasive rotary brushes to ruin the soft fabric. Beware of the detergents and cleaning products that you use on your rug. Go for products that will remove stains, dust, and bacteria. It is essential to buy products specifically designed for your carpet’s material. If you are not sure whether the detergent will damage the rug, do a patch test on an area that will not be noticeable.

4. Prevent Wear and Tear

To stop your rug from wear and tear, rotate the carpet to avoid continuous walking on the same spot. The positioning of your furniture will create parts that are walked on and those that are not. If your rug runs up to an external door, use a doormat to catch grit and dirt as people walk in. You should be conscious about the sun rays that make your carpet fade unevenly. Having curtains that block the harmful rays will help to prevent color variations between exposed and covered areas. Sun rays cause premature aging, fading, and discoloration depending on the material of the rug.

A rug is a substantial investment, and you can increase its lifespan by caring for it. Cleaning a carpet can be difficult. Therefore, vacuum it regularly to get rid of loose dirt. It is essential to take your mat to a professional cleaner at least annually to prevent dirt from becoming embedded on the rug.
