On October 7th, 2017 the first official off-season event presented by Live! at The Battery – “Bump, Set, Spiked” – a charity volleyball tournament raised over $4,300 to go towards Angels Among Us Pet Rescue and hurricane relief efforts. This Battery wide event consisted of sixteen teams battling it out on two competitive courts located the Battery Plaza Turf. Over 400 spectators were able to enjoy a concert by Yacht Rock Schooner.
Not only did this event raise funds for both causes, but all pets present at the pet adoption received applications for new homes. Jackie, Representative of Angels Among Us Pet Rescue said, “We are so grateful for events like this, where we’re able to promote our amazing adoptable dogs and raise money to save other pets from neglect, abuse, and high-kill shelters. The Funds raised from Bump, Set, Spiked will go directly to saving the lives of dogs and cats in need.” According to Marketing Director of Live! at The Battery Ben Brengle, “This is this first of many events to come not only on the Battery Plaza, but inside the Live! district itself. Our 2018 calendar is filled with concert series, festivals, and family friendly events.
